ADAM KNOCHE: ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
AN EXHIBITION OF WOOD FIRED CERAMIC WORKS BY VISITING ARTIST ADAM KNOCKE
Saturday 28th July to Sunday 29th July 2012To be held in the Strathnairn Woolshed
A 2 day only showing of ceramic work made and wood fired during his recent Artist in Residence at the Strathnairn Homestead.
My work has many influences such Japanese aesthetic philosophy, which I apply to industrial forms and traditional pots. I believe that the Japanese aesthetic is embraced by many different cultures because of its connection to human nature and its ability to show this through its pottery. I believe that pottery fired in a wood kiln has a sense of truth. It is a celebration of the clays bare surface and the limitless possibilities that the clay as a media has to offer. The depth that is created in the process of layers built on top of the surfaces creates chance, movement and life. I strive to show these ideals through my artwork with the techniques in which I have acquired through my studies. These techniques have allowed me to make loose, casual, and aggressive work, while maintaining fluidity of form.
December 2014 issue of ArtAscent Magazine will have two of my sculptures. I was selected along with many other artist to be published for the call "Red". Follow the link below to ArtAscents website to check out the issue.
